What is filet mignon?
Filet mignon is expensive, boneless cut of beef that comes from the small end of the tenderloin.
The tenderloin is a long, cylindrical muscle and is the most tender meat on the animal. It is located at the back of the animal behind and to the side of the spine. It can be cut into a number of different steaks and one of these cuts is filet mignon.
The filet mignon is usually 1 to 2 inches thick and 1 1/2 to 3 inches in diameter. It is extremely tender but doesn’t have that much beefy flavor compared to ones with the bone attached.
Filet Mignon Meat
Filet Mignon or Tenderloin Steak is a cut of meat that is considered the king of steaks because of its tender, melt in the mouth texture. It comes from the small end of the tenderloin (called the short loin) which is found on the back rib cage of the animal. More in Filet Mignon Meat.
Cooking Filet Mignon
