Filet Mignon Meat

Filet mignon is a part of tenderloin.

As you can see there is only a small ammount of this valuable meat on the animal.
There is many different ways how you can obtain filet mignon.
One smart way is to buy “Porterhouse Steak” and get two steaks in one. Porterhouse steaks are large cuts which include the filet mignon. The small medallion on one side of the bone is the filet, and the long strip of meat on the other side of the bone is the strip steak.
The other way is to buy handcarved filet mignon which is is wrapped in bacon to help ensure it retains enough moisture during cooking. This kind of steak is normally called “Choice Filet Mignon”.
If you ara on a low-fat-diet you can get extra fet free filet mignon. This is “Trimmed Filet Mignon” where all exterior fat is carefully trimmed away, and it is without bacon wrapping.
And you can even buy stuffed filet mignons, where the stuffing can be made from cheese.
